Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between Cycle and Non-Cycle medication?
A: Cycle medications are those that are taken routinely for health maintenance. Examples include prescriptions for diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol. Non-Cycle medications are typically, but not necessarily, over-the-counter medications. These may include medications that are taken as needed like Tylenol, Advil 0r Aspirin. We make it easy to distinguish the difference between Cycle and Non-Cycle medications. Non-Cycle medications will utilize a bright red sticker that reads: "Medication not on cycle, please call 5 days in advance for refills".
Q: When does a cycle start?
A: We are flexible with cycle start dates and we will accommodate the preferences of each individual facility.
Q: What is the cut-off time to call in a prescription in order to receive it the same day?
A: Our cut-off times are 5:30PM Monday through Friday and 2:00PM on Saturdays. All prescriptions faxed after this time will be delivered the following day.
Q: If a client goes home over the weekend or goes to a day program on the weekdays, can we request that the medications be packaged separately?
A: Yes, we will gladly separate and label the medications for weekend and weekday packages at no cost.
Q: What happens if the doctor discontinues or makes a change in a client's medication?
A: We will call and advise you of any changes called in by a doctor, whether it is a discontinued medication or a newly prescribed medication. We will follow up with a fax confirming the change for your records.
Q: Can a new Medication Administration Record be printed if there is a change of medication in the middle of the month?
A: Yes
Q: Will Austin Drugs provide an E-Kit?
A: Yes, if the regulations permit us to do so.
Q: How does Austin Drugs collect the co-pays?
A: We will bill directly to the client's family or send the bill to the facility.
Q: If a medication is not covered by insurance, what will happen?
A: Austin Drugs will call the doctor and change the medication to a covered one. We will then inform the facility of the change.
Q: Many times when I call a pharmacy, I end up having to speak to several different people and repeat my concerns. Will I encounter this with your pharmacy?
A: No, because you will be assigned an account manager who will oversee everything regarding your facility. All questions and concerns will be handled by that single individual.
Q: If a facility decides to change pharmacy services, how easy is the transition?
A: Very easy and simple. All we need is a copy of the most recent Medication Administration Record. We will then process the order and deliver the medications at the next cycle.
